A Winnipeg dental clinic is suing a patient for publishing an online review that accused staff of misleading her about the cost of a procedure, the Winnipeg Free Press reported.

Greenwoods Dental Centre filed the suit in January, alleging that the patient’s statements caused injury to its “reputation, goodwill, business, business relationships and profitability.”

The patient alleged that staff told her insurance would cover about 80 per cent of the treatment, but she later discovered it covered only about 15 per cent, leaving her with a $1,000 out-of-pocket bill.

“As a full-time student, this financial burden was overwhelming, and the lack of clear communication from their office was incredibly frustrating, unprofessional and rude,” she wrote in the review, a copy of which was included in the lawsuit.

The Winnipeg Free Press reported this is the second time the clinic, part of a chain of dental offices, has sued a patient over an online review.
