A study from Loughborough University found that patients would welcome weight loss advice during their dental appointments.
With the increasing levels of obesity among children and adults worldwide, the University researchers wanted to see how dentists could help. They looked at the opinions of patients and dentists when it comes to discussions of weight management during dental visits.
The study found that currently there is little to no involvement of dental professionals. Of the dental teams that are providing this support, the feedback is positive from those receiving the assessments.
“It is positive to see that both the public and those within the profession are supportive of weight screening, discussion, and signposting to support becoming more routine during dental appointments,” said pediatric dentist Jessica Large, a leader in the study.
