There is ongoing research by the University of Oklahoma College of Dentistry to make dental materials last longer.
Kfor.com recently reported on this initiative from the Department of Energy, which is providing funding for a team of researchers for “Project Cupiid” or “Complex, Unique, and Powerful Imaging instrument for Dynamics.”
One of the researchers, Dr. Fernando Esteban Florez, said that they are working with chemists, physicists, engineers, bioengineers and material scientists. They are taking a multi-disciplinary approach, looking at how different dental materials behave in the body and how long they last.
The outcome of the research is predicted to decrease costs and time for patients at the dental office.
