The CDHO Council rescinded the Standard for Authorization to Self-Initiate Profession-Specific Acts, which has been in place since 2007. Now Registered Dental Hygienists (RDHs) who wish to self-initiate the controlled act of scaling and root planing no longer need to apply for authorization through CDHO.
“Clearance from a physician or dentist is required if any contraindications are present or if there is any doubt as to the accuracy of the client’s medical or oral history,” CDHO reported on September 25.
Some employers may still implement their own approval processes so RDHs should stay informed and aware of their employment terms.
If you are currently in the process of applying for authorization with CDHO, you no longer need to continue with the application.
