As of June 27, 2024, adults with a valid Disability Tax Credit certificate and children under the age of 18 can now apply for the Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP).

With this expansion, approximately 1.2 million more people will have the opportunity for improved oral health, according to the Government of Canada. This is made up of approximately 938,000 children and more than 180,000 adults with a valid Disability Tax Credit certificate.

Currently more than 200,000 seniors have received dental care services such as cleanings, fillings and dentures, and there are around 11,400 oral health providers registered to provide these services under the CDCP. However, as of July 8, any oral health provider will be able to treat CDCP patients and bill Sun Life directly without being officially signed up for the program.
