The federal government has shared that 46,000 claims have already been processed through the Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP), reported the CBC.
The number of oral health care providers that have signed up for the program has increased to nearly 9,000 out of the approximate 30,500 that could register.
Some of the dental issues that dental professionals have treated so far under the CDCP include cavities, broken teeth and bleeding gums.
Dr. Melvin Lee, an Ottawa dentist that is providing care with the program, told the CBC, “I’ve seen a lot of patients that have infections. Not just dental emergencies, but borderline medical emergencies. I haven’t seen patients in this condition since I did overseas mission dentistry work in Haiti and Peru.”
