Since I took these photos, I also have the Hourglass Skin Tint in shades 3, 6 and 7, so I will swatch those and include in this post as soon as I can.

Before & After Photos

My before and after photos in this post show the shades 2, 4 and 6. I have photographed all three of these shades because it took me quite a while to work out which shade suited my skin tone best.

Which shade of Hourglass Veil Hydrating Skin Tint to choose?

I started off with shade 2 which I initially thought was the best match. However, as the day wore on I decided it was a little on the pale side for me, and wasn’t quite working on my skin’s undertones.

I next tried shade 4, which I think is my best everyday match. Moving from shade 2 to 4 really helped me appreciate how lovely this product is. I think this will be the one that I reach for the most.

I was also keen to try shade 6, which is shown below. I really like this one too, and it gives a much warmer, more bronzy look. It would be a great one if I didn’t have time to do any other makeup, and just wanted a little something on my skin.

I have decided that my best shade is 4 because I do prefer to have a lighter base and then to warm up my complexion with bronzer, just in the places I need it so there’s more depth, dimension and shape. Shade 4 allows this perfectly for me.

My Review

Hourglass Veil Hydrating Skin Tint Review
Hourglass Veil Hydrating Skin Tint Review

This is a lovely formula that melts into the skin effortlessly and feels like lovely nourishing skincare. I like to apply it with my fingers and really work it in.

It is super comfortable on the skin and gives it a lovely hydrated feel. This product actually really reminds me of Charlotte Tilbury Light Wonder which is one of my favourite light foundations. The Hourglass has a bit more coverage and lasts a bit longer on the skin I think.

What are the shades like?

The shades are really quite flexible, and as I said, I can get away with both 4 and 6. I am a shade 4 in the Hourglass Ambient Soft Glow Foundation (review here) and the 4 is a great match for me in the skin tint.

The Hourglass Veil Hydrating Skin Tint shade don’t have as strong undertones as some of Hourglass’ other foundations, which make it easier to wear.

In case you’re a shade twin, here are my other matches, with reviews linked, for your reference:

What skin type is it good for?

My skin type is mature/combination and I find it works really well for me. The Hourglass Veil Hydrating Skin Tint has been formulated to be suitable for all skin types, however, I think if you are dry or dehydrated, you will really love it.

It is suitable for sensitive skin?

As the formula contains lots of skincare and feels very calming and soothing on the skin, I think it will work well on sensitive skins.

Do you need to powder it?

I am combination skin and I skip usually skip powder. I have been testing this without powder and I am pretty pleased with how well it stays put. If you’re oily you will probably want to powder it.

Is it easy to apply?

I really like to apply this like skincare with my fingers. It melts into the skin really easily and blends invisibly. I think less is more with this product. The first time I used it, I applied too much and it didn’t wear as well.

What is the coverage like?

This is a lovely lightweight formula with light coverage that you can build up a little. It looks really natural on the skin and it definitely evens out tone. I use concealer for any areas that need a bit more coverage.

What is the finish like?

This formula gives the skin a lovely instant dewy finish that looks plumped and smooth. If you like a bit of glow, you will love it.

Is it long-lasting / transfer-resistant?

I find that this skin tint holds in place pretty well. Considering it’s pretty sheer and has lots of moisturising ingredients in there, is stays in place. If you want it to last longer, you can powder it.

Does it oxidise?

I haven’t noticed any change in colour with application.
